Abandoned Cable Removal

Definition of abandoned cable: “Installed communications cable that is not terminated at both ends at a connector, or other equipment, and not identified for future use with a tag.”

Abandoned cable was mandated in the 2002 “National Electrical Code”. The 2005 “Canadian National Fire Code” also requires removal of such discussed cable.
In the past, there was a tendency to categorize these cables as “out of sight, out of mind.” These abandoned cables poses a safety, and liability fire risk.
